Prof. Dr. Jana Zvárová, MSc., Ph.D., DSc. Full Professor of Charles University in Prague, director of the European Center of Medical Informatics, Statistics and Epidemiology of Charles University and Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Head of the Department of Medical Informatics, Institute of Computer Science AS CR.

Since 1969 she has delivered presentations and published internationally on medical informatics and statistics issues. She has been involved in interdisciplinary research and education in the field of biomedical informatics and statistics, e.g. decision support and expert systems, electronic healthcare records, electronic medical guidelines, telemedicine, theory of information, statistics in clinics, genetics, epidemiology and pharmacology. She has been the representative of the Czech Republic in the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) and the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI), the head of the Medical Informatics Section, a member of the Czech Society of Biomedical Engineering and Medical Informatics, a member of the board of the Society for Cybernetics and Informatics and a member of the International Society of Clinical Biostatistics. She has participated in scientific and organization committees of many national and international scientific events. She has significant professional participation in national and international initiatives in medical informatics and statistics, especially in the field of research, higher education and continuing education using new information technology. She has participated as a member of the editorial board in several international and national journals, e.g. International Journal for Medical Informatics, Methods of Information in Medicine, European Journal for Biomedical Informatics, Physician and Technology and Informedica.

She has served as the expert for the European Commission and Czech governmental institutions. She has been involved in more than 30 projects, including projects of the European Commission where she has worked as a scientific coordinator or a partner and she has published more than 250 papers in national and international professional literature. She has initiated the development of Ph.D. studies in Biomedical Informatics in the Czech Republic and as the appreciation of her work in the field of biomedical informatics and statistics she has received several awards from national and international universities and societies.
